Honduras Mission
Hyperbaric clinic of Dr. Elmer Meija in La Ceiba, Honduras
For many years the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Elmer Meija of Honduras. Elmer was a close friend of Canon to the Ordinary, Gus Salbador, and later a wonderful friend of Bishop Caldwell and all of the missioners who have traveled to Honduras.
During that time Elmer has completed his medical degree, helped establish a village school feeding program, worked with us to build a school and a clinic, engaged us in medical missions to people throughout Honduras and most recently established a clinic for the poor in La Ceiba. The La Ceiba clinic also boosts a refurbished hyperbaric chamber which is used for the treatment of many illnesses including decompression sickness, burn scarring, and circulatory problems associated with diabetes. Dr. Meija is one of the few physicians in Honduras trained in hyperbaric medicine.
In the summer of 2009, a mission group for youth and adults from Wyoming traveled to La Ceiba to make the final preparations for the opening of the hyperbaric clinic. It now serves the people of La Ceiba and the northern coast of Honduras as a fully functioning hyperbaric and general medicine clinic.
Here people gather to see the medical mission team and Dr. Meija at the new clinic
Everyone should have a big brother like this. Can you see Christ in this photo?
