Benefactors
Principal benefactors:
George B. Storer: The Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming was formed to respond to the extremely generous gifts of George B. Storer of Saratoga, Wyoming. Mr. Storer was a radio and television broadcasting pioneer who was an acknowledged leader and innovator in this fledgling industry growing his small business into a New York Stock Exchange listed enterprise.
Mr. Storer passed away November 4, 1975 at the Miami Heart Institute, an organization he also generously supported. Mr. Storer had also previously established the Storer Foundation which continues as a major charitable organization.
Mr. Storer’s will established three charitable remainder annuity trusts naming as the remainder beneficiary the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming. In July 2007 the first of those trusts passed to the Foundation and became the primary source of funding for the Foundation.
Mr. Storer’s gift has enabled the Foundation to acquire and remodel its offices in Casper Wyoming and to support the exciting work of the Diocese of Wyoming. It continues to serve as a source of funding for mission and ministry across the state of Wyoming and into other areas such as the hurricane devastated areas of Louisiana, and medical, educational, and housing missions in Mexico and Central America. Mr. Storer’s gift remains the backbone of the Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming.
Edith May Adams: Miss Adams was an Episcopal Deacon to the Wind River Indian Reservation. In addition to serving the people of the reservation she accumulated a substantial collection of Northern Arapaho artifacts which have been preserved in anticipation of the construction of a suitable display area on the reservation. Miss Adams also provided by her will that substantial funds would be placed under the control of the Episcopal Bishop for the Diocese of Wyoming. These funds are held in the Foundation to serve the designated purposes specified by Miss Adams and as directed by the Bishop.
Special benefactor:
Newell B. Sargent: During his lifetime, Mr. Sargent was an industrial pioneer in the State of Wyoming creating a soda pop bottling enterprise, transportation and distribution system and many ancillary businesses. He also generously supported many Episcopal activities and the Cathedral Home for Children in Laramie, Wyoming. Mr. Sargent also created the Sargent Foundation for Episcopal Ministries which continues to this day. It is managed by three trustees: Charles Smith of Casper, John Masters of Cheyenne, and Bruce Caldwell, Bishop of Wyoming. The Sargent Foundation works hand in hand with the Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming to serve many within the diocese. It remains a strong supporter of the work of the Diocese, of local parishes primarily for facility improvement, and of the HR Wilderness Camp. The Sargent Foundation for Episcopal Ministries has provided over $7 million in support to these organizations and remains an essential component of Wyoming diocesan life.
